Every day an average of 300 million women and girls around the world menstruate. A seemingly natural occurrence is turned into a nightmare for millions of women and girls through the persistent stigma, lack of access to menstrual products and proper sanitation, as well as lack of education on managing their menstrual cycle.
Many struggle to buy female hygiene products causing women to turn to rags, socks, newspaper or even notebook pages. Many also often lack access to clean water and private toilet facilities. The topic of menstruation can be taboo in many cultures and can therefore cause embarrassment when a female is menstruating and does not have the resources to manage her menstruation properly.
The Helping Her Foundation National Pad Drive has been launched out of the continued desire to provide for our less fortunate women and girls across Trinidad and Tobago with sanitary products.
This campaign intends to collect product and raise funds in order to provide children’s homes and women’s shelters with sanitary products on a continuous basis for the foreseeable future.
